The Affair of The Purple Suit

Discussed: The State of American Television, Wardrobe Malfunctions, IAmChuckBass.com’s Place in the Blog Constellation, More Modern Men, Paying Closer Attention, Gilles Deleuze

B and C Here.  We wanted to write a quick note to clear something up, something that we feel is of great importance to the continued reign of Gossip Girl as “most intellectually stimulating show this side of Charlie Rose”.

The Purple Suit donned by Chuck in this week’s episode.  This thing has become seriously controversial, lighting the pages of some other blogs, Gossip Girl and beyond, which shall here remain nameless.

We implore of everyone to open their hearts and minds to what this Purple Suit was meant to represent.  As pointed out first in our comment boards, obviously we’re dealing with a season long tip of the hat to the greatest superhero movie of all time.  First we had an episode metaphorically named “The Dark Night”, then Chuck’s maniacally effective Bass-ian manipulation culminating in the out-of-the-shadows-of-Gotham Purple Suit appearance, clearly positioning Chuck as The Joker and paying homage to one of cinema’s Great Modern Men, Heath Ledger.

While it may appear that we feature our fare share of cinema-referencing, we are boys of the silver screen and so too are the writers of Gossip Girl. So before we all go rushing to an unnecessarily harsh condemnation of Chuck Bass’ exemplary fashion choices, let’s all take a minute to firstly breathe, and second, ponder What It All Really Means, as in the Affair of the Purple Suit, it actually means quite a lot.

Way to provide some much needed intellectual reasoning! (Despite the fact that Chuck Bass’ choice in attire should really be self justifiable, deep purple IS the “in” colour for the season.)

I cant begin to tell you how glad I am that this blog exists.

oh b, don’t you know… ‘purple’ is the chosen color of the season. there was actually a bit about it on yahoo’s homepage this morning. i do not kid. i am fairly confident that soon our stylists and rtw designers will being bowing to the whims of the pantone charts and the need for a pugh, or a chalayan, or a mcqueen will be no longer. stylists will rule us all with their tedious concepts and individuality will all but a long lost notion.

that was begin actually, not being. oops.
